Variations in Baccarat
We all know that baccarat came from Italy during the Middle Ages and spread to different parts of the world. We also know that baccarat has undergone many modifications in terms of game play and rules.
The game of baccarat is called by different names in different countries. This is because when baccarat spread and took root in a country the country and the people made baccarat their own. This brings forth the birth of different baccarat variations.
Baccarat variations normally differ in the following elements: The number of decks, the number of players, the rules for drawing, the payouts and odds and the size and layout of the table. Different baccarat variations include Chemin de Fer in French and Europe, Punto Banco in Cuba, Baccarat en Banque and European Baccarat in Europe and Mini Baccarat.
Chemin de Fer is the name of baccarat in France. This literally means "rail road." It is to be remembered that baccarat came to France around the year of 1500s and has been played by the rich and famous ever since. This baccarat variation has gained quite a name in the rest of Europe as well.
Chemin de Fer prescribes at least two players. The gambling house does not finance the game as other baccarat variations do. In this version, one need not wager on the bank or the players. One can be the bank, the player or merely a wagering spectator in every game. The players may so choose to give up the position of the bank to other players. The rules of the Chemin de Fer in standing and hitting vary greatly from its American counterpart, thus giving this baccarat variant more room for flexibility.
European Baccarat is said to be the most famous baccarat variant in Europe. Similar to Chemin de Fer, European Baccarat is also financed by the banker. The banker also determines the limit for betting. If for example the banker decides that the game cap would only be $2000 and one player already bet $1500 and another bet $500 then no more wagers could be made for that hand. It is said that European Baccarat has smaller game caps as compared to other variants where the casino funds the game.
There are other variants of baccarat but I won't mention them here anymore. Suffice to say that although baccarat has evolved into a game with many variants, it is still considered by many to be the most elegant and high-class casino game of all.
